We're not necessarily writing less code, or even writing less interesting code. The stack just continues to get higher and higher, and the higher the stack, the greater the base functionality from which we begin to innovate.

While it may seem that the stack getting higher and higher leaves less and less room for creative coding, the truth is that the functionality bar is continually raised as well, as we target ever more sophisticated functionality. There continues to be more than enough room at the top of the stack today, and programming continues to be a highly creative and fulfilling vocation. I can't foresee a time when this won't be the case. The stack is ultimately unbounded.
